The Role of Creator
If you’ve never taken the time to create your own RPG world or RPG system, you really should consider it. It’s a satisfying and mind-stretching endeavor that you’ll get better and better at with practice. Below are some tools that I’ve found useful in various modes of creation.
World Building
Downfall
Downfall is a 3-player, GM-less game where you build a society and then bring it crashing down. It’s a great tool for world building, and I also made a cool Social Studies project out of it for my 8th grade students. Read my review here.
Microscope
While Microscope is meant to be a 2-4 player, GM-less game where you can explore whole civilizations or time periods or zoom in to RP individual scenes, I think it works great as a Session 0 game to world build.
